From Sept. 1 through Nov. 3, New Orleans police confiscated 347 illegal guns.

The department said Wednesday that the guns were seized by officers on foot patrol, at traffic stops and during drug busts. In all, officers retrieved 296 handguns, 33 rifles and 18 shotguns.

Police say the guns have a street value ranging from around $400 to as much as $1,500 for a Kimber handgun.

In one case, residents called police to report two teenagers carrying an AK-47 through a playground.

The boys were ages 13 and 15. Officers called for back-up, evacuated the playground, chased the boys down, arrested them, and also hauled in an adult bystander who tried to help the teens in their efforts to ditch the gun
