New Orleans Port – CN Railway To Expand Container Traffic

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Port of New Orleans is trying to draw more container traffic by building on its relationship with Canadian National Railway.

Multiple media outlets report that port president and CEO Gary LaGrange announced on Wednesday that the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to increase their work together.

According to the port, the new Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal currently under construction will improve links to the terminal by offering on-dock access for rail shipments. The $25.1 million project is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2016.

The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, a switching railroad that serves the Port of New Orleans, and New Orleans Terminal LLC, an operator of the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal, also signed the agreement.
