Lafayette and the state's largest high school will have a new man in charge when classes begin in August. That man is Donald Thorton Jr. Mr. Thorton will be taking over for Dr. Patrick Leonard who will retire at the end of July. Dr. Leonard has been on campus at Lafayette High for the past 21 years.

According to a story reported by KATC TV 3, Thorton will be moving to Lafayette High School from his current position which is principal of Lafayette Middle school. His prior education experience includes time at Lafayette High as an assistant principal and as an assistant principal at Paul Breaux Middle School.

Mr. Thorton received his bachelor's  degree from Northwestern State University . He also holds masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Thorton's first day on the job will be August 1.
