St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz is announcing today that he is naming Major Eddie Thibodeaux as the new spokesman for their Crime Stoppers Program and as their new Public Information Officer.

The position became vacant after for St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Captain Clay Higgins resigned following a Crime Stoppers video about the Gremlins Gang.  Higgins told KPEL that he was told to "tone down" his Crime Stoppers videos in the future, and Higgins said he was not going to do that, and he would not disobey his captain, so he felt it was in his best interest to resign.

Guidroz had this to say about Thibodeaux via a news release,

"After an extensive search of qualified deputies within my department, I have decided to name Major Eddie Thibodeaux as the Public Information Officer and Crime Stoppers host.  Major Thibodeaux is a lifelong resident of Eunice with 28 years of law enforcement experience and currently serves as our Director of Training and Professional Development. Thibodeaux has risen through the ranks of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department working with department Reserve Officers, the Patrol Division, Detectives Section, Narcotics Section, and he was a superb K-9 handler and trainer.  Major Thibodeaux is a great fit for the Public Information Officer position."

Thibodeaux first worked for the Eunice Police Department before joining the force at the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office in 1993.

Thibodeaux used to hot the "Sheriff's Update" under former sheriff Howard Zerangue.

Among his other duties are the following:

  • He teaches at the St. Martin Police Training Academy
  • He was certified as Public Information Officer
  • He currently helps Sheriff Guidroz with other departmental publications
