New Orleans has launched a new public awareness campaign designed to spruce up the city in advance of an upcoming string of high-profile events, including next spring's NCAA Final Four men's basketball championship, the 2012 Sugar Bowl, the BCS National Championship, and Super Bowl XLVII in 2013.

The push is using the slogan, "Don't Trash Dat! Keep New Orleans Clean," and will include public service announcements, signs on buses and streetcars and bumper stickers.

Local tourism leaders appeared with Mayor Mitch Landrieu at Basin Street Station on Monday to announce the effort.

The campaign will unveil other messages in the coming months. It will be funded through funds from the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill settlement that was set aside to help improve the public's perception of the city.
