News Wrap-Up: Weekend Brought A Death Investigation At Girard Park, Multiple Shootings And Numerous Arrests Of Local Sports Figures

A 21-year-old woman was found dead over the weekend near the pond in a drainage ditch at Girard Park in Lafayette. Spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton says investigators have not yet determined the cause of death.



In Sulphur Friday night, former LSU football player Brandon Winey allegedly shot another former player, Tahj Jones, after both men showed up to the same woman’s apartment complex. Jones is recovering from surgery.

In Iberia Parish, an adult and a teenager were wounded in a shooting at a home on S. Hopkins Street. Witnesses say an unknown black male wearing a black hooded shirt and black pants started shooting through the door of the home.



On Sunday, sophomore forward Shawn Long, a star member of the Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team, was arrested after he and a group of people allegedly failed to leave Trahan Hall on the UL campus after being told to earlier in the day by UL Lafayette Police. He has since been released from jail.

Randall Antoine, an assistant football coach at Westgate High School, has been accused of inappropriate relations with a 17-year-old student. It’s not known where the student goes to school, but information about the alleged crime came from the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Sex Crime Division.
