The next mayor of Jennings will be getting a boost in their paycheck after a vote of the Jennings City Council.  The council decided that the next mayor will be getting a 25 percent increase in salary.

By voting in the affirmative for this issue, the council made the move to increase the next mayor's salary from 52-thousand dollars a year to 65-thousand.

Council President Stevie Van Hook told the American Press (http://bit.ly/cseYHv ) after the meeting he has researched mayoral salaries for those cities along Interstate 10 with similar populations and budgets as Jennings and found the mayor's salary was lacking.

The pay for the Mayor of Jennings has seen improvement in the last several years.  In 2009 the salary was set at 36-thousand dollars, but was increased 52-thousand, and will now go up by 25 percent.
