No charges will be filed against the Sunset police chief after prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to try the man for allegedly misrepresenting himself as chief before he was elected to the office.

According to the Advocate, St. Landry Parish prosecutors reviewed the case file into Luis Padilla. In September, Padilla was arrested on a count of impersonating a peace officer.

Padilla was also a specially commissioned deputy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office at the time of his arrest, but it was unclear what the nature of that commission was.

Padilla was arrested Sept. 29 on accusations he had approached a man in a parking lot two days before, falsely identified himself as chief of police, flashed a badge and then questioned the man about what he was doing in the area.
