The United States Attorney Stephanie Finley's office says a 48-year-old North Carolina man was sentenced to 63 months in prison for having a sexually explicit image of a Lafayette minor.

The prosecutor says he started chatting with the minor via a social media website.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi sentenced Eric Teague of Granite Falls, North Carolina to five years and three months in prison for possession of child pornography.

Teague will have to register as a sex offender, and the man will also have three years of supervised release.

Teague got the sexually explicit image from the minor in January of last year, and he was later found in possession of the image.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a program aimed at stopping child abuse and the sexual exploitation of children.
