PARIS (AP) — The French government says it wants an explanation from the U.S. ambassador for the "totally unacceptable" practice of the U.S. National Security Agency's collecting of French phone records.

The French newspaper Le Monde reports that documents leaked by American Edward Snowden show that the NSA swept up more than 70 million French phone records in a 30-day period.
