WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama wants to give Americans more power to choose what kind of power they use.

The president is traveling to Las Vegas on Monday to attend a clean energy conference. He'll announce new efforts to make it easier for homeowners and businesses to invest in green energy improvements that in the past may have been impractical or unaffordable.

The president's speech is expected to push back against fossil fuel and utility interests that have been working against clean energy policies with arguments that the matter should be left to the free market.

Conservative groups scheduled a rival "affordable energy summit" in Las Vegas as a counterpoint to the clean energy gathering. They say Obama's policies promoting wind and solar power will result in higher electricity prices.
