WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will pay tribute to John F. Kennedy today, two days before the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

Obama will honor one of JFK's lasting initiatives and will bestow the Presidential Medal of Freedom on more than a dozen prominent Americans, including former President Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey.

Kennedy established the modern version of the medal. Later, Obama will visit Kennedy's grave at Arlington National Cemetery.
