Louisiana State Police are investigating an interstate shooting that involved a deputy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Trooper Stephen Hammons says the shooting happened at exit 40 of I-49 and State Police are now handling the investigation.

Deputy Chief Hilman Popillion with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says a suspect fired at the deputy, but the bullet missed.

The deputy is being looked over, but he is reportedly okay, according to Popillion.

Two assailants have been taken into custody, Popillion says. State Police continue to investigate.
