Jason El Koubi, the CEO of One Acadiana, says he was disappointed when the proposed half-cent school board sales tax was voted down this past weekend. The district maintained throughout the campaign that the money would be dedicated, but opponents pointed to a veiled challenge by State Attorney Jeff Landry. A letter sent by Landry the week before the election said an earlier opinion that was being used to defend the 'dedicated' nature of the proceeds of the tax would not necessarily apply. Residents also voted down two parish-wide tax renewals to fund the court house and jail facility maintenance.
