Acadia Parish Sheriff's deputies have arrested one man, and they are searching for another after an attempted burglary in Morse.

The whole situation began to unfold early Thursday morning when a homeowner called the Sheriff's Department about a burglary taking place.

The victim jumped into his car, and he followed the two suspects. At that point, Sheriff K.P. Gibson alleges that 18-year-old Clarence James Celestine Jr. started shooting at the victim.

As law enforcement drove after the suspects, the whole chase came to an end when they crashed the car.  Both men fled into a wooded area.

After an exhaustive search, deputies arrested 18-year-old Tanner Bonin, but they are still looking for Celestine.

Bonin has been charged with the following:

  • Attempted burglary of a vehicle
  • Attempted second degree murder
  • Being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm

Sheriff Gibson says that Bonin has been arrested multiple times.

Gibson says while the search is not over, they must thank multiple law enforcement agencies,

"I would like to thank our deputies and the support of the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, the US Marshals Service as well as other private volunteers who assisted in this investigation."

The Sheriff is asking for the public's help. Anyone who sees Clarence Celestine is asked to call the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office at 337-788-8772 or Acadia Parish Crime Stoppers at 789-TIPS (8477).
