LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) — One person is dead after he was shot to death during an apparent burglary Sunday morning on Hummingbird Lane in Lafayette Parish.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says 33-year-old Clement Amos III had been called by his female neighbor who suspected someone was trying to break into her apartment.

When he went to investigate, deputies believe Amos came into contact with the suspect, who shot him several times, killing him. It’s believed the suspect fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s. If you have any information, police urge you to call Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
