NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Chevron says a contractor has been killed during maintenance on a natural gas line off the Louisiana coast.

Chevron spokesman Gareth Johnstone says in an email that the contractor was among four maintenance workers on the platform about 11:10 a.m. Saturday. He says two others were taken to a hospital for what are expected to be minor injuries.

The platform is part of a natural gas gathering system. Johnstone says the pipeline was shut-in after the accident. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Johnstone says a small amount of natural gas condensate was released into the water, but dissipated. Natural gas is being released at the platform to relieve pressure on the line owned by Chevron Midstream Pipeline LLC. Johnstone says containment crews are headed to the platform.
