UPDATE: Chesmond Paris has turned himself in to Lafayette Police, according to department spokesperson Cpl. Paul Mouton, and has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

UPDATE: Lafayette Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of 23-year-old Chesmond Paris of Lafayette for the second-degree murder of 23-year-old Wilbert Simon.

According to Lafayette Police Department spokesperson Cpl. Paul Mouton, investigators believe Paris and Simon were involved in some kind of disturbance when Paris pulled out a gun and shot Simon multiple times.

A second victim was shot in the foot when he tried to intervene in the altercation.

ORIGINAL: Lafayette Police Department officers are looking for the person responsible for the shooting death of a man on Christmas Day.

According to police department spokesperson Paul Mouton, officers responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Elenore Street.

Officers discovered two victims--one had been shot in the foot and taken to an area hospital, while the other was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim suffered from two gunshot wounds to the torso, Mouton said.
