SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — One man is dead and a 17-year-old critically injured in an early morning apartment fire in Shreveport.

Firefighters responded to the fire just before 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say 30-year-old man was found dead inside the apartment. Firefighters say a 7-year-old was revived at the scene and sent to the hospital.

Firefighters say it appears the man went back into the apartment to rescue the 7-year-old but collapsed from the smoke.

Officials say the fire heavily damaged the apartment. The remaining seven apartment units in the building had some fire, smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
