ORIGINAL: One person is dead following what state police are calling a "non-contact hit and run crash" on Hwy. 90 Saturday night.

State Police Trooper Stephen Hammons said the driver of a 2006 Mercedez Benz was travelling at a "high rate of speed" in the left lane of Hwy. 90 just east of Hwy. 675. An unknown vehicle switched lanes in front of the Mercedes. That move forced the driver of the Mercedes to veer left into the media, where the car struck a culvert, overturned, and then caught fire.

Hammons said the driver was pronounced dead once the fire was extinguished.

Troopers are trying to find the driver of the other vehicle. If you have any information, you're urged to call Louisiana State Police.
