Fastway Convenient Store on 708 East Vine Street in Opelousas has had the attention of local authorities for several months, and now there's been an arrest.

Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallow says their department, along with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, has been monitoring the store, conducting undercover operations related to the distribution of synthetic marijuana and the illegal sale of alcohol to minors. 40-year-old Omar "Detroit" Waleed of Opelousas, a store employee, has been arrested for those two offenses.

"This establishment has been a problem for a number of years and it is my hope that this will close them for good," says Chief Gallow. "The fact that they sell synthetic marijuana, alcohol to minors as well as allow for other illegal activity, has been a problem for this neighborhood...I am glad the investigations has resulted not only in the arrest of employees, but the seizure of additional evidence by St Landry S/O as a result of the search warrant."
