(KPEL) — An Opelousas man is in jail today after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and beating her.

Lt. Megan Vizena with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says Travis Lewis forced his way into the woman’s home, then allegedly punched her several times in the face.

“There were children inside of the home at the time of the crime,” Vizena says. “Fortunately none of them were injured.”

Vizena says deputies found Lewis walking on the side of the road a short time later, and he was arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.

No bond has been set.
