A 28-year-old Opelousas man was killed Friday night as a result of a single vehicle crash south of Krotz Springs.

Louisiana State Police Master Trooper Brooks David said Nicholas Lafleur was driving north on La. Hwy. 105 when for some reason he drove off the left side of the road, drove into a ditch, and crashed into a hurricane fence and a metal post.

Lafleur was not wearing a seat belt, David said, and he was ejected from the vehicle. Lafleur was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office.

Troopers believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash, but they are awaiting the results of a routine toxicology test.

The crash remains under investigation.
