Opelousas Man Dies In Early Morning Crash

38-year-old Herbert Rideau of Opelousas was killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash on LA Highway 749 near Armory Road north of Opelousas.

La. State Police PIO Trooper Brooks David says Rideau was driving his truck, when for unknown reasons, ran off the right side of the road into a private lot and hit an unoccupied 18-wheeler logging truck head on. Troopers say Rideau was pronounced dead at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers continue to investigate to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
