OPELOUSAS, La. (KPEL) -- Police have arrested and charged a man with the early morning first-degree stabbing murder of his wife.

According to Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallow,  44-year-old Hank Moran allegedly stabbed his wife up to 14 times following a domestic disturbance at the South Railroad Avenue home.

Gallow said the incident began with a 911 call from the wife early Tuesday. Moran was not there when police arrived.

Gallow said the victim told police she and her husband had been fighting about financial issues and he allegedly tried to choke her and then left.

Police couldn't find Moran and upon their return to the home, they noticed an open back door.

Moran reportedly told officers while standing over his wife's body, "I bet she listens to me now."

Moran is being held without bail in the St. Landry Parish Jail, Gallow said.
