OPELOUSAS, La. (KPEL) -- A shooting in Opelousas has left a man in critical condition at an area hospital.

According to police, the victim was shot while he was helping a woman move. The woman's estranged husband, 32-year-old Damian Landry--from whom she had been separated for nearly three years--shot the man.

The victim was shot once in the abdomen, and he was taken to Opelousas General Hospital by ambulance, police said.

Landry was found about an hour after the shooting, police said, but he denied any knowledge of the shooting.

He was booked into the Opelousas City Jail on charges of attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
