MONROE, La. (AP) — The Ouachita Parish Police Jury has approved an $82.7 million spending plan that includes a $3.2 million overall deficit.

Officials tell The News-Star the deficit was planned as the parish works to complete several million dollars' worth of capital outlay projects.

Total revenues for the 2013 fiscal year are projected to be $79.5 million. The jury will take $3.2 million from its $70 million fund balance to make up the difference.

The cost for the parish to provide public safety is the largest expenditure next year at a projected $30 million. Expenses for a number of capital outlay improvement projects follow at about $18.7 million.
