MONROE, La. (AP) — Ouachita Parish officials are looking for ways to help combat illegal dumping and littering problems that's plagued the parish for years.

A "litter and illegal trash dumping summit" is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at the city of Monroe's public safety center on U.S. 165 South.

Members of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, representatives from the city of Monroe, Keep Ouachita Parish Beautiful and other organizations will discuss ongoing litter issues and develop a plan that involves local residents. Businesses, civic groups, community leaders and citizens are invited to attend

The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/NcMbti ) the goal is to establish a list of recommendations to present to the Police Jury on how to reduce litter and illegal dumping in the parish.
