“Parade” Causes Melee In NOLA

It was not a sanctioned parade, and New Orleans police says that revelers ended up in a fight.

New Orleans police say an unauthorized Carnival parade triggered a melee that injured six officers and resulted in 12 arrests. Police said the Sunday night incident started after dispatchers received calls that about 200 people were marching and playing music in the Faubourg Marigny section of the city, not far from the French Quarter. Police said the group was ordered to disband because participants did not have the required parade permit. According to police, some people threw bottles and bricks at officers and slashed tires on two police vehicles. The crowd was a loosely knit marching group calling itself the Krewe of Eris.
