BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 14-year-old boy accused of intentionally setting a fire at the Brookstown Middle Magnet Academy gymnasium has been arrested.

A spokesman for the Baton Rouge Fire Department says the teenager was turned in by his parents Wednesday and arrested on counts of simple arson, criminal trespassing and burglary. It was unknown if the teenager has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

The Advocate reports the fire incident occurred Nov. 18.

Department spokesman Curt Monte says the boy was the only person involved in the fire, which damaged equipment and furniture being stored in the gym.

The school has been closed for renovations since it flooded in August.
