NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) — Parker Drilling has laid off 35 workers at its New Iberia facility.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission confirmed the moves Thursday, according to The Advertiser.

The company had filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice Feb. 24 that was received at the state LWC office March 2.

The notice indicated that Houston-based Parker intended to lay off between 50 and 297 employees between March 4-18. The latter date passed without action, but 35 layoffs were made the next day.

The company appeared to enjoy a profitable 2014, according to its annual report of Feb. 18. But company President Gary G. Rich said then that 2015 would be difficult as oil prices have plunged from a high of $114 a barrel last June to the low $40 range.
