Drivers need to pay attention to the roadway and limit distractions, state police Troop I spokesperson Brooks David said on "Ask the Trooper."

"They're playing with their phones or not doing what they're supposed to be doing," David said. "In a rush to get to where they're going and they're just not paying attention and they're hitting the vehicles in front of them."

Two crashes on Interstate 10 in Acadia Parish shut down traffic for much of the day and well into the night. David said the second crash was caused by a driver in stop and go traffic who crashed into the back of a truck carrying hazardous materials.

Also discussed on Ask the Trooper:

  • What should you do if you observe another driver breaking the laws of the road.
  • Parents need to instill in their driving age children the importance of wearing their seat belt.
