ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Alexandria city employees would receive a pay raise of close to 3 percent under a budget proposal outlined by Mayor Jacques Roy.

The Town Talk reports Roy held a briefing Monday to go over the proposed 2015-16 fiscal year budget. A public hearing will be held at Tuesday's City Council meeting, and council members will meet at least three times over the next two weeks to hammer out details.

The new budget takes effect May 1.

The pay raise would cost about $1.3 million.

Roy's proposed budget reflects "cautiously optimistic" projections of growth in the local economy. Revenue estimates conservatively project 2 percent growth in sales tax revenue.
