Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns didn't have a stellar record this season, but anyone who watched them play came away with the opinion the future is bright.

And two players in that future were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference basketball team released today by the league office.

Elfrid Payton, just a sophomore, was named to the first team, while Shawn Long was named to the second team, as well as the league's freshman of the year.

Payton's improvement into one of the league's best guards was highlighted by finishing first in the league in assists and steals, besides finishing fourth in the league in scoring.

Long had seventeen double doubles, best in the league and tops in the nation among freshmen.  He also had the most rebounds of any freshman in the country.

South Alabama's Augustine Rubit was named Player of the Year, Middle Tennessee's Bruce Massey was the Defensive Player of the year, and his coach, Kermit Davis, was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Payton and Rubit were joined on the first team by Middle Tennessee's Marcos Knight, Florida International's Tymell Murphy and Greg Gantt of Florida International.
