Interstate 10 East was shut down for two hours this morning near the Ambassador Caffery Parkway exit following a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

According to our news partner KATC, Lafayette Police are still investigating the accident that has left  55-year-old Mary Ann McCrery dead at the scene.

Police reported McCrery was struck by a car that was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 at about 5:30 Sunday morning when she walked into the roadway.

There is no evidence given as to why McCrery was walking in the area or why she stepped into traffic.

Traffic was rerouted around the scene of the crash until 8:30 a.m., but the roadway is now cleared.
