BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A phone bank has been set up for Texas families trying to find loved ones evacuated after Hurricane Harvey to state-run shelters in Alexandria and Shreveport.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services says the numbers to call are 225-615-0086 or 225-615-0258.

For privacy reasons, the department says it can't confirm the identities of people they're housing but people who call the reunification phone lines can provide information on who they're searching for and contact information. Then, DCFS will determine whether the person is being housed in the state shelter and, if so, pass along the caller's message.

Survivors who would like to let their family members and friends know they are safe also are encouraged to register at www.safeandwell.org, a website set up by the American Red Cross.
