Renovations to the rest stop in Grand Prairie, La. should be wrapped up by the middle of March, allowing recreational fishers to get back to the water in time for the spring weather.

Deidre Druilhet with the state's Department of Transportation and Development said DOTD is renovating the rest area and areas nearby. The rest stop and its nearby lake are a popular destination for fishermen from which to launch their boats.

"If we're doing work in the area, the contractor of course is held liable for anything that goes on in that area," Druilhet said. "So we want to keep the public safe. So if there's still construction going on in that area, we don't want to put them in a position where we still have construction going on."

Druilhet also discussed DOTD's efforts to keep open major roadways during recent winter storms in Louisiana.
