Pineville Woman Dies In Lafayette Crash

Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 49 Northbound near Carencro that took the life of a Pineville woman.

Trooper Brooks David says 27-year-old Jessica Short of Pineville was Northbound on I-49 when she drove off the right side of the road, went through a ditch and ended up hitting several trees.

Short was taken to a Lafayette hospital, but she later died from her injuries.

Brooks says Short was wearing a seat belt, and while impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, State Police did take a toxicology sample for analysis.

This is the 27th fatality in 2015 in the Troop I area.
