Police Book Teen In Fatal Caldwell Parish Wreck

GRAYSON, La. (AP) — State police have arrested a Columbia teenager on negligent homicide and obstruction of justice charges in connection with a two-vehicle fatal crash on La. Highway 849 south in Caldwell Parish.

Troopers say the 17-year-old was traveling north early Saturday when he passed a truck in a marked no-passing zone.

As the teen attempted to re-enter the north lane, investigators say the rear of his vehicle struck the front of the truck. The teen lost control of his vehicle, it ran off the road and overturned.

Troopers say his passenger, 17-year-old Michael Woods of Grayson, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Woods was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, troopers say the teen first said that Woods was driving the vehicle.
