An attempted traffic stop leads to a police chase and ends in a drug arrest.

On Tuesday, Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says a deputy had stopped 39-year-old Travis Lee of St. Martinville on Highway 90 eastbound near the Highway 14 exit, but as soon as the officer approached Lee's vehicle, Lee allegedly sped away, injuring an officer.

Sheriff Ackal says police were able to finally stop Lee on Avery Island Road. Ackal says deputies were able to confiscate over $6,000.00 in drugs, including powder cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamines, controlled prescription medication and cash. Deputies also say they saw Lee throwing items out of his vehicle, items they say were illegal narcotics.

Lee has been charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule II narcotics, possession with intent to distribute schedule I narcotics, second subsequent offender, proceeds derived from drug transactions, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, battery of a police officer, misuse of a temporary license plate and taking contraband into a penal institution. He's been booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
