FERRIDAY, La. (AP) — As children, parents and teachers in Ferriday prepare for the Aug. 10 re-opening of schools, Ferriday police are preparing as well.

Police Chief Richard Madison is implementing a new program called, "My school, my beat," in which officers and other police department employees help monitor activity at one of the five schools in Ferriday.

Madison told The Natchez Democrat that each police department employee, including himself, will have a designated school that they will visit periodically throughout the day.
