BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Police say a lightning strike has left one man dead and another man injured after they sought cover under a tree during a rainstorm.

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark tells The Advocate his office plans to conduct an autopsy Friday on the fatal victim. Clark says the man, who has not been identified, died Thursday afternoon shortly after the strike.

Police Sgt. Don A. Coppola Jr. says the two men had been working on a roof when they sought cover under the tree and lightning suddenly hit nearby.

Coppola said he's not sure of the extent of the second man's injuries, but he has been hospitalized and is expected to survive.
