The Port Allen council will be looking at a new proposal that will call for the city's nightclubs and bars to stay open just a little bit longer. But, it's not the closing time that is changing, it's the rules of closing.

Current law in the city states that nightclubs and bars must close at 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday and midnight on Sunday. The closing includes the staff, therefore clean-up time starts earlier than actual closing time.

The proposal is trying to change the law to allow for the staff to stay late in order to get the establishment cleaned up without having to cut into serving times.

Many council members support the extension so far, but many of them agree that explicit stipulations must be called for to make sure that bar owners follow the law.

The council will be discussing the issue on Wednesday.
