Port Allen Might Do Without Curbside Recycling

The trash fees are likely to be raised soon, so the city is looking to cut corners. The City Council is considering one of those corners to be curbside recycling.

Mayor Roger Bergeron proposed two rate increases that would save the necessary funds, about $300,000 from recycling subsidiaries. Port Allen parish currently charges about $17 a month for trash collection for each household.

Many council members understood the mayors point of view, but were against the change because many of the citizens of the area are fixed income seniors.

The new rate increased have not been voted on yet.
