SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A new dock is expected to double the capacity to handle barge traffic in the Port of Caddo-Bossier.

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/PyjQiF ) the dock — the port's second — was completed earlier this year. But it will not be operational until the waterway is dredged to make way for barges.

The dredging hasn't yet been scheduled because the contractor is working elsewhere on the Red River, said port director Eric England.

The $11 million dock is part of the port's master plan to grow as a multimodal transportation hub, England said.
