Update – Lafayette Man Arrested In Abbeville Motel Situation

Update: 32-year-old Derek Viator of Lafayette is in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center after allegedly putting a gun to a woman's head after allegedly breaking into her motel room with another suspect.

According to our news partners at KATC, she was able to leave the room and was able to call police from the Sunbelt Lodge Motel office.

Viator was arrested after the victim and witnesses helped police put together a photo lineup. He has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, False Imprisonment, Armed with a Dangerous Weapon and Illegal Carrying of a Firearm.

No word on what happened with the other suspect.

Abbeville Police are looking for a female and two males after they were called out to the Sunbelt Lodge Motel on Saturday.

According to our news partners at KATC, police say a female called 911 after she says someone walked into a hotel room and made a threat. But when police got on the scene, the people inside the room had left.

Police say they are not sure if the situation is an abduction.
