Possible Sweepstakes Scam In Iberia Parish
October 5, 2012 3:29 PM The possible scam was reported to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Louis Ackal says the victims told told their department that they were called by someone stating they had just won a large amount of money. According to the victims, the caller then said that someone from the sweepstakes would arrive at their house with a check for the amount that was disclosed to them. The victims would then have to cash the check for the representative of the sweepstakes in order to get the money they had supposedly won.
Police say it appears the callers are possibly from outside the country. If you live in Iberia Parish and get one of these calls, call the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 369-3711.
