BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Police are still investigating an apartment shooting that left a pregnant Alabama woman dead.

The Advocate reports 29-year-old Brittney Mills was shot in her apartment Friday night. Police say they found Mills dead, but rushed her to a local hospital where her unborn child was delivered in unstable condition.

A spokesman says it is believed Mills opened her door to someone who wanted to use her car and was shot multiple times when she refused. Investigators believe Mills knew the shooter.

Police say the baby has been upgraded to stable condition and expected to survive. Mills is also mother to a 10-year-old daughter.
