Premium Increase Approved

The state's insurance company of last resort approves an average 6 & 1/2 percent premium hike for over 100-thousand homeowners. Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance first asked for approval of a 9 percent increase, but that was chopped by Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. Under the rate increase, the average homeowner will pay an additional $127 a year.
