Less than 90 days from the election President Obama bypasses Congress once again in a blatant effort to garner immigrant vote.  Beginning August 15 the Obama Administration will start charging young illegal immigrants $465 for temporary work permits to avoid deportation.

Under this DREAM Act-like policy immigrants who entered the United States before their 16th birthday, are younger than 30 years old, lived in the US for at least five years and are in school or the military are eligible for these temporary permits.  There are restrictions but there are some upsetting issues with these permits.

The first thing that bothers me is these 'temporary' permits can be renewed after two years which makes them more than temporary in my view.  In addition to being less than temporary fees can be waived under "limited circumstances" whatever that means.

Secondly, even though it is unclear how long the process will take some of the newly registered immigrants may get temporary legal status before election day!  It seems to me immigrants would be likely to vote for the person who let them into the country with a minimum of paperwork.

Thirdly, at a cost of only $465 per immigrant the AP estimates the cost of the program will be $467 million to $585 million the first year.  Revenues from the program will be an estimated $484 million.  What are the chances we actually will make money on this scheme?  I say 'slim to none'.

In my opinion this immigration policy is just one more instance of President Obama circumventing Congress in his march to destroy this great nation.
